The College of Chiropractors of Alberta (formerly ACAC) regulates chiropractic practice in Alberta to safeguard quality care and maintain public trust, while the Chiropractic Association of Alberta advocates for the profession and raises awareness.
The College of Chiropractors of Alberta (CCOA) is Alberta’s regulatory body for chiropractors. Established under the Health Professions Act, it sets and enforces professional standards, ethics, and competence. Its role is to protect the public by registering qualified practitioners, addressing complaints, and maintaining transparency in regulation. In 2021, the organization formally transitioned to this single-mandate structure, separating from association functions to focus exclusively on regulation .
Meanwhile, the Chiropractic Association of Alberta (formerly the association arm of ACAC) continues its mission to promote chiropractic care across the province. It advocates for improved access to services, educates the public about the benefits of chiropractic, supports legislative initiatives, and offers professional resources to its members.
Together, the CCOA and CAA ensure Alberta chiropractors provide safe, evidence-based care while advancing the profession. Whether you’re seeking a regulated practitioner or want to learn more about chiropractic advocacy in Alberta, these two bodies represent the standards and future of chiropractic in our province.
